September is recognized as National Preparedness Month (NPM) which serves as a reminder that we all must take action to prepare, now and throughout the year, for the types of emergencies that could affect us where we live, work, and also where we visit. Due to the success of last year’s theme, “Don’t Wait, Communicate. Make Your Emergency Plan Today,” will be returning for this September with a continuing emphasis on preparedness for youth, older adults, and people with disabilities and others with access and functional needs. What Should You Prepare For?

Disaster can strike without warning. Some events to prepare for would be snow storms, hurricanes, earthquakes, tornadoes, lightening, flooding, and power outages. What is the state of your emergency plan? Has it not been looked at for years, or is it always on your to-do list but never makes it to the top of your pile? Wherever you may live, it is always a good to make sure that your home and your company is prepared for whatever mother nature may throw our way.

This preparedness stresses the different types of emergency events that can strike in your area. Whether it is seasonally or some sort of unexpected disaster. You should do your best to keep informed via television or radio broadcasts. Your company should have emergency communication plans in plans that everyone is aware of. Important documents should be stored away in fire safe boxes or safety deposit boxes.

We suggest that you and your employees download the FEMA App to a mobile device. It is compatible with Apple, Android and Blackberry mobile devices. Some of the features of the app include alerts from the National Weather Service, disaster reporter, maps of disaster resources, a way to apply for assistance, safety tips and custom emergency safety information.
