Prepare For Norovirus With These Steps

06/28/17 By Jordan Weinstein

Norovirus is a group of viruses that are brought on when the food we eat or surfaces we touch are contaminated, lasting for about 1-3 days. Currently, there are six recognized norovirus genogroups. Three of the genogroups (GI, GII, and GIV) affect humans.

Anyone can be affected by this virus and once someone is affected by it; people develop gastroenteritis, resulting in cramps, diarrhea, and vomiting. It is an illness that is very contagious, especially within big groups of people, causing it to spread quickly.

With most people going on cruises or putting their kids in camps during the summer, the chance of catching the Norovirus tends to rise.  This becomes a problem for young kids, older adults and those with weaker immune systems who can develop more serious problems while having this virus. Although this can’t be prevented, the best thing to do is to plan ahead in the event of acquiring the Norovirus.

Protect Yourself and Others from Norovirus.

To better prepare for contamination, a written spill-control program should be made, one person should be assigned to control the situation, and proper spill cleanup kits including an EPA-registered disinfectant should always be in stock in the case of an emergency.
