What is ANSI? The American National Standards Institute

06/03/24 By Safetec

ANSI is The American National Standards Institute and sets guidelines to ensure products and services in the U.S. are safe, reliable, and of high quality. ANSI doesn’t make the standards themselves but coordinates the efforts of different groups and companies to develop them. The standards help with consistency and ensure everything works well together, promoting safety and efficiency in various fields.

At Safetec of America, we are committed to practicing and following all safety standards in the workplace so we can produce the products that companies need to comply with safety standards themselves.

What does ANSI do?

One of the main components of ANSI is ISEA Z308.1-2015, which is the guide that establishes minimum performance, size, and quantity requirements for first aid kits as well as the different types of supplies that need to be in them for various work environments.

Compliant first aid kits, according to ANSI standards, are broken down into two categories, Class A or Class B, based on the anticipated number of users, the work environment, and the potential level of hazards.

  1. Class A
    • Purpose: Provides a basic range of products for common workplace injuries such as major wounds, minor wounds (cuts and abrasions), minor burns, and eye injuries.
    • Use: Suitable for workplaces with a smaller number of employees and fewer hazards.
  2.  Class B
    • Purpose: Offers a broader range and greater quantity of supplies aimed to treat injuries in a more populated, complex, and high-risk workplace.
    • Use: Designed for workplaces with higher risks and a larger number of employees.
